ABOut
Johanna Byloff currently focuses on romantic and baroque operatic repertoire. At Theater an der Wien (Kammeroper), she appeared as the Young Baroness, followed by the roles of Prince Orlofsky in Johann Strauss's "Die Fledermaus" and Normanno in Donizetti's "Lucia di Lammermoor". Other engagements include Czipra in "Der Zigeunerbaron", Cherubino-Monostatos in Mozart's works, and a Courtesan in Verdi's "La Traviata". At traditional Viennese balls, she has performed Arias from Bizetโ€™s โ€œCarmenโ€, Rossiniโ€™s โ€œLa gazza ladraโ€, and Donizettiโ€™s โ€œLucrezia Borgiaโ€.
Beyond her operatic engagement, Johanna maintains an extensive repertoire of sacred music. As a soloist, she has performed the alto part in Pergolesi's "Stabat Mater", as well as works by G. F. Handel (Messiah), G. Mahler (2nd symphony), A. Vivaldi (Nisi Dominus), and J. S. Bach (Christmas and Easter Oratorios, Cantatas). She regularly contributes to the musical arrangement of masses and weddings.

Her musical career is built upon comprehensive vocal training. Following extensive studies with Sarah Kettner in Leoben (2017-2024) and Rannveig Braga-Postl in Vienna (2020-2022), she currently continues her education in Bern with Andres Feliu and Tanja Ariane Baumgartner. To further develop her artistry, Johanna participated in masterclasses with Rita Novikaite, Caroline MacPhie, Rannveig Braga-Postl, and Barbara Fuchs in Lyon, Vienna, and Zurich.

Past Performances
In September 2024 and 2025, I had the wonderful opportunity to open the 124th Theresianisten-Picknick, a traditional viennese ball. In 2024 I performed the Seguidilla and Habanera from Bizetsโ€™ Carmen (pictured). 2025, I veered off the beaten path and sang Nicklausseโ€™s Aria Cโ€™est lโ€™amour vainqueur from Hoffmannโ€™s Tales and Pippoโ€™s Brindisi (= drinking song) Tocchiamo, beviamo. Itโ€™s always a challenge to sing while playing around with a bottle onstage!
Palais Niederรถsterreich Ball Openings

In June 2024, I performed the Barcarolle from J. Offenbachsโ€™ Les Contes de Hoffmann with orchestra in Styria, Austria. Additionally, we staged various choir pieces from the classical operatic repertoire, ranging from Belliniโ€™s Norma to Pucciniโ€™s Madame Butterfly.
Harmonies of the Night
In September 2022, I concluded a busy year with the ball opening of the 122th Theresianisten-Picknick, where I sang Maffio Orsiniโ€™s drinking song from G. Donizettiโ€™s Lucrezia Borgia (without getting poisoned ;)).
Operetta Soiree
Retirada - in die Beste aller Welten
2021 to 2022 I participated in Theater an der Wienโ€™s Youth project โ€œRetirada - in die Beste aller Weltenโ€. During this time, we developed a musical theatre project based on Voltaireโ€™s Candide, dealing with the question of optimism vs. pessimism. Operatic as well as theatrical elements were incorporated into our performance, which took place in the streets of Vienna and the Kammeroper.
Stabat Mater (G. B. Pergolesi)
2022, I sang G. B. Pergolesiโ€™s Stabat Mater in Kalwang, Styria. Staying true to the baroque original, we performed a version for two soloists with string orchestra and organ, of which I sang the alto part.
Lucia di Lammermoor (G. Donizetti)
2021, after delays due to Covid-19, we could finally stage Lucia di Lammermoor by G. Donizetti. I played Normanno, an evil henchman to Luciaโ€™s brother Enrico. To make the italian opera more accessible to an austrian audience, we performed recitatives in german, adding an additional challenge for the singers involved.
Der Zigeunerbaron (J. Strauss II)
2018 I debuted for the first time as a soloist as Czipra in J. Strauss IIโ€™s operetta โ€œDer Zigeunerbaronโ€ (the Gypsy Baron), The staged performances took place in Schloss Ehrnau, Styria, with orchestra and choir.
Mozartโ€™s Mann und Weib
In the summer of 2022, I sang Prince Orlofsky in a staged operetta production, combining the ball scene of Johann Strauss IIโ€™s โ€œDie Fledermausโ€ (โ€œThe Batโ€) with various other pieces from the operetta repertoire.
In 2019, I sang Cherubinoโ€™s second aria in โ€œMozartโ€™s Mann und Weibโ€, where we combined four Mozart works into one story about the perils of love. Together with the page from Nozze di Figaro, I had a speaking role as Monostatos. Our performances were staged in Stadttheater Leoben, Styria.
